The name Olive Branch Media comes from one of the many olive- leaf, branch, and tree references in the Bible. If you don't know, my faith is very important to me so when it came time to choose a name for my business, I knew that it had to be meaningful in the Bible.
The most well-known reference of an olive branch in the Bible is that of Noah's ark and the dove, who returns with a leaf from an olive tree showing that God keeps His promises to us. Though this is the first and most popular reference, my favorite comes later...
In Romans 11, Paul writes about God's faithfulness to Israel using the image of an olive tree.
Romans 11:17-19 "But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. Then you will say, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in." That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith." (ESV).
Paul pictures here an all-supplying root that represents the covenant that God made with Abraham. This passage touches me personally in the fact that I can compare myself to the branches of an Olive Tree. If God is my always faithful "nourishing root" then I need to be relying on Him for my strength and comfort in the good times and the bad, not breaking off in a lack of faith. Instead, I want to be the one "grafted in" to help teach others about the love God has for them and to help them find the nourishment they need from Christ and Him alone.
Incase you haven't heard it today, YOU are loved.
